The importance of school attendance . . . Absences add up! Missing just two days a month means a child misses 10% of the school year. During the 2022-23 school year 19.3% of Indiana students missed 18 or more school days. Students who are chronically absent in grades K-2 are much less likely to read at grade level by 3rd grade – which would make them 4 times more likely to drop out of high school than proficient readers.
